Naming your tables is an easy way to make a wedding feel personal. Below are ideas by theme, a few rules for choosing names that work in a real room, and how to print them as table cards in Seating Solver.

## Key points

- Wedding table names can be places, flowers, songs, films or memories you share, as long as they are short and easy to read from a distance.
- Keep a number somewhere too (on the seating plan or a small line on the card), so guests who forget a name can still find their table.
- In Seating Solver, rename a table under the Tables tab and the name is used on the table cards, the seating chart poster and, if you switch it on, the place cards.
- The table cards print the name on both sides of a folded tent card, so guests can read it from either direction.

## Wedding table name ideas by theme

Pick one theme and stay with it, so the tables look like a set. Here are some starting points.

### Places and travel

Cities you have visited, the place you met, or the countries of your guests: Paris, Lisbon, Kyoto, Edinburgh, Santorini. Sort them roughly by where each group of guests is from for a nice touch.

### Flowers and plants

Peony, Dahlia, Lavender, Foxglove, Rosemary, Bluebell. Use the flowers in your bouquet or the venue garden, so the table names match the room.

### Songs and albums

Titles or artists you both love. Pick short names, because a long title will shrink on the card. A shared playlist is a good source.

### Films and books

Favourite films, book titles or characters, or the first one you watched together. Short titles read best.

### Personal milestones

Where you met, the street you first lived on, the restaurant of the first date, the year of the proposal. Guests who know the story enjoy working out which table is which.

### UK-flavoured ideas

Seaside towns (Brighton, Whitby, St Ives, Margate), pubs you both love, county names or national parks (Peak District, Lake District, Cornwall), or tea and biscuit names for a relaxed, funny touch.

## More ways to name tables

- **Wine and drinks:** Rioja, Prosecco, Earl Grey, Negroni. Good for a relaxed party.
- **Colours:** Sage, Blush, Navy, Ochre. They can match your colour scheme.
- **Seasons and months:** a simple set for a small wedding, for example the months of the year for twelve tables.
- **Family or friendship stories:** the name of the street, school or team where a group of friends met.
- **Photo years:** the year of each photo on display, such as 2014, 2018, 2022.

## How to choose table names that work

- **Make them readable from a distance.** Prefer one or two short words. Long names have to be printed smaller, which makes them harder to read from the next table.
- **Avoid names that look alike.** “Rose” and “Rosemary” on the same floor plan are easy to mix up. Check that each name starts differently.
- **Keep a number too.** Some guests will not remember “Lisbon” but will remember “table 4”. Put the number on the seating chart next to each name, or add it to the name, for example “4 Lisbon”.
- **Check the pronunciation and spelling.** Guests should be able to read the name aloud and find it on the plan.
- **Avoid rankings.** A name that suggests better or worse (such as “Premier”) can cause awkward comparisons. Neutral themes avoid it.

## How to name your tables in Seating Solver

1. Add your tables on the **Tables** tab.
2. Type a name in the name field of each table, for example “Lisbon”. By default tables are called “Table 1”, “Table 2” and so on.
3. Seat your guests on the **Plan** tab.
4. Open the **Print** tab and download the **Table numbers** PDF. It has one folded tent card per table, with the table name on both halves.
5. Print on card stock, cut and fold along the dashed line.

The same names appear on the [seating chart poster](https://seatingsolver.com/wedding-seating-chart-sign/), and on the [place cards](https://seatingsolver.com/place-cards/) if you switch on “Show the table on the card”. Change a name once and it changes everywhere the next time you download the PDF.

A very long name is shrunk to fit and wraps onto at most two lines on the table card, so keep names short. The card prints a name only, not a number plus a name, so if you want both, type them into the name, as in “4 Lisbon”. ## Where to put the table names

Stand one tent card on every table, where guests can see it from the entrance of the room. Put the full plan on a sign or board at the entrance, with each name above the guests seated there. ## Wedding table name questions

### What can I name wedding tables instead of numbers?

Places, flowers, songs, films, shared memories, colours or local favourites such as seaside towns and pubs. Pick one theme, keep the names short, and make sure no two look alike.

### Should I still use table numbers?

It helps to keep a number somewhere, such as on the seating plan or in the name, for example “4 Lisbon”. Guests who forget the name can then still find the table.

### Can Seating Solver print table names?

Yes. Rename any table on the Tables tab, then download the Table numbers PDF from the Print tab. The name is printed on both sides of a folded tent card.

### Do the names show on the seating chart and place cards?

On the seating chart poster, yes. On the place cards, the table name appears if you switch on “Show the table on the card”.

### How long can a table name be?

Short names look best. Long names are shrunk and wrapped onto two lines on the table card, so they become harder to read from a distance.

### Is it free?

Yes, Seating Solver is free to use right now, including printing, and it works without an account.
